My new denim jacket from ABLE
I absolutely love when brands send me clothing! What I enjoy even more is when there’s a story behind the brand! When ABLE reached out I checked out their website and read that they’re a lifestyle brand focused on ending generational poverty through providing economic opportunity for women. This really got my attention and I knew I wanted to support this great cause that also benefits women! To read more about ABLE and what they stand for you can check it out here.
I fell in love with The Minelia Jacket. I’ve always wanted a black denim jacket but I had a hard time finding one that worked for me. If you’re shopping for a jacket of any kind the best place to start looking is at a thrift store. Usually when I come across a denim jacket that I love it’s vintage and WAY overpriced. I’m always like, “Okay. I get that it’s a name brand or it was made a long ass time ago but come on now I’m at a thrift store and I came for the deals”. Sometimes the denim jacket looks perfect on the hanger and then I put it on and I’m swimming in it or it’s too tight and I can’t even relax my arms. I wasn’t sure which size to order for this jacket because I always shop in the men’s department for jackets. I trusted in the size guide and hoped for the best. Based on my measurements the large looked like the best option. It also figured it would give me enough room to layer underneath. One of my biggest pet peeves is having a cute jacket that you can’t button all the way up because it’s a size too small and only looks good open.
When I tried on The Minelia Jacket it was just the look I was going for and I’m so happy to add it to my wardrobe.
I love a simple all black piece because you can style it easily! It happens to be lightweight and comfortable and it’s also made up of 75% cotton and 25% lyocell. It’s the perfect option to throw on for a cute casual look for the day or the evening.
When I was thinking of ways to style this jacket I knew I wanted to wear black jeans with it. Instead of going for a black on black look I wanted to add a splash of color somewhere. I knew I had to first find the perfect shirt. I usually focus on one item at a time when I’m creating looks and once I get the statement piece that helps me decide on how I want to bring the outfit together. Remember when I mentioned I wanted to start introducing new colors to my wardrobe? Well I stuck to my word and now own this really dope gold short-sleeve button down. I love the color and always wanted a shirt like it but wasn’t really sure if I could pull it off or how I would style it. Per usual, ASOS never lets me down and they had the perfect gold shirt!
The shirts called the ASOS DESIGN relaxed deep revere shirt . I’m wearing a size medium and it’s seriously the cutest shirt and one of my new favorites. I know it’s going to get a lot of wear this summer! In the photos I’m playing around with tucking in my shirt or leaving it untucked. I’ve really been into tucking my shirts in lately but every now and again I like a relaxed look. With this look I gave you examples of how both options can work it just depends on what you’re in the mood for!
Who remembers my instagram post about the jeans I purchased from Marshalls junior’s department? If you do, I love that you’re paying attention. It means a lot! :)
For those of you who might have missed it let me get you caught up really quickly! I really despise wearing jeans and I’ve never been a fan of shopping for them. Growing up, more often than not I had horrible experiences trying on countless pairs of jeans in the dressing room, none of them fitting properly and then leaving the fitting room in tears wondering what was wrong with me. A few years ago I finally found a good pair of Levi’s skinny jeans from the women’s section but I had holes in the thigh area so it was time to let them go and dreadfully find new ones.
I happened to be on the phone with my mother when I started on this quest and she told me to specifically check out the juniors department at Marshalls. She said don’t worry about what size you get but trust me on this one the jeans always fit well. I trust my mom and all but wasn’t really sure I was going to find what I was looking for especially not in the '“juniors” department. I grabbed a bunch of different sizes and went to the fitting room to try them on. I tried on one pair and I was like, “um woah, they actually fit.” Tried on another pair and they fit too! I tried on about 8 different pair of jeans all around the same sizes and it was just what I needed. There was the right amount of stretch and they were skinny jeans. There was wiggle room for my booty and for the first time ever I didn’t feel weird wearing them. Even the skinny jean Levi’s with the holes in them weren’t this comfortable. I felt like how I was supposed to feel when you try on clothes, comfortable! I didn’t buy all 8 pairs of jeans but I did buy 1 black pair and 1 denim pair. That’s all you really need! I love how this dreaded experience had a positive outcome and I didn’t leave the store feeling ashamed of my body. Now I know when I shop for jeans my body isn’t the problem, the design, cut or fabric isn’t for me and there’s always another design, cut and fabric that WILL work for me. I just have to try different options!
Now let’s get into my socks/sandals combo! I knew when I bought this gold shirt that I was going to wear these socks with the gold toe. I just love socks and sandals and on his particular day it was too chilly to wear sandals without socks. NO THANK YOU! I’ve had my black platform Teva sandals for a few years but always wanted the same pair in white. I found these on Zappos as well and I’m so glad I got them! I’m working on getting more shoe/sandal options as it gets warmer but for now these sandals are doing it for me. I love a platform life and I’ve really gotten used to being higher in the sky and pretending I’m lowkey tall hahah!
If you want to buy the same denim jacket in these photos you can find it here!
