I purchased this utility vest at the end of 2018. Silly thing is, I’ve only had the chance to wear it once and this is my second time wearing it. I plan on wearing it more now that I have more options to style it with. Since it’s tan, I feel like it stands out best when it’s paired with a white shirt, white turtleneck or white sweatshirt. I only had a white sweatshirt when I purchased the utility vest so my ability to come up with various outfit options was limited. I could also see myself styling this vest with a light grey color any earth tones.
Also, can we talk about the amount of pockets this vest has! I can fit the whole squad’s phone in my pocket! Forget bringing a carry on for the airplane, this utility vest can BE my carry on HAHA! There are a total of 5 pockets on the front and two hidden pockets on the inside. So much room to carry so many things! I have a mini messenger bag that works for some looks but doesn’t hold nearly as much as this vest can. I like having options and it’s nice to know I can fit everything I need right in this vest.
Okay, so…I have a little confession to make. I don’t know if someone told me this information, if I read it somewhere or if I came up with this on my own BUT it was a huge no no for me to wear tan or any piece of brown clothing item with a black clothing item.
For me, whenever I tried to combine these colors I thought I looked like a walking human Reese’s peanut butter cup. If you know me you know I don’t even eat Reese’s peanut butter cups because I can’t stand the mixture of eating peanut butter and chocolate at the same time. I enjoy my peanut butter by itself and chocolate by itself LOL. I’m sure there are a few Reese’s lovers reading this but I guess this mentality made its way into my wardrobe. I’ve always worn brown clothes with other browns or any other color except black. With black clothes, I wore it with every color except brown. This year I said eff that! I’m blending more brown clothing with black clothing and I think it looks so good together! I’m wearing my ASOS DESIGN super skinny chinos in black which are always a great alternative if you’re not a fan of denim like me.
I’ve slowly started to change my style since the end of last year and I’m really digging the tailored, tucked in look. Now that I’m feeling less insecure in my body I no longer feel the need to always hide behind baggy clothes. It feels good! I don’t know how long this style phase will last but I’m going to enjoy it while it does. Don’t get me wrong, I still wear baggy clothes when I want to but I’m really embracing the fitted look more often. It’s a style I never embraced before and it’s totally my vibe right now.
I decided to pair my utility vest with a white turtleneck that I found on Amazon. I ordered a size medium which was a risk because I normally order a large in all of my shirts. I wear a large in shirts to prevent the world from seeing my boobs which is an area on my body that I’m not a fan of. Thank goodness for binders! When I wear turtlenecks I’m usually putting layers over it so I figured a medium would be the best size so that I could tuck it in and wear something on top without looking too bulky.
Can you guess what’s a very important accessory for your outfit if you like tucking in your shirts? A good belt! January 2019 was the first time I decided it was necessary for me to have a cute belt that would last. Since I started tucking in my shirts a lot, I needed a belt to hold up my pants when I sat down and bring the outfit together. Also, I wanted to avoid the plumbers crack at all costs so a belt was absolutely necessary LOL!
I found the belt I’m wearing at Zara in the men’s section. On the website it looks like the clasp part is a space grey color but it’s actually matte black. I knew right away I wanted it. You’re probably like, I can’t even see your belt….but that’s the point! I’m wearing a belt with black pants and you can’t even tell. Some accessories are worn to stand out but when it comes to my belt I like for it to blend in for a nice clean, well-polished look.
