Happy New Year!

2018 flew by in a blink of an eye and I have to say it was an amazing year. I learned so much about myself and I can only hope 2019 is just as exciting.

Can you believe StylewithStray.com is almost 1 years old? My first blog post was February 8, 2018 — I’m lowkey screaming because WHHHAATTT!!!? lol

I want to personally say THANK YOU to all of the readers who take the time out of their day to read my blog. I can’t say this enough but it means the world to me! All of your support and kind words keep me going and I’ve had so much fun sharing different looks with you. I’m excited to keep raising the bar with my fashion journey this year.

In addition to sharing my New Years fit, I wanted to share something else that was on my brain because you know, the New Year makes people get all philosophical and ish haha!

When I graduated in 2012 with a B.A. in Broadcast Journalism with no job or plan to work in journalism I sort of felt like a failure. Yes, I was happy and thankful to have had an education and to have a degree under my belt but I felt that I might have chosen the wrong major. I didn’t have a job in my field straight out of college which I knew was rare but I didn’t have ANYTHING lined up. Senior year, my dream job was to work at Sony Music which was where I was interning at the time. A few months before my internship ended and graduation was right around the corner, I knew there weren’t any positions opening up. I took it hard. With student loans piling up and my new found freedom, I didn’t know what to do with my life. I knew I had enough of school but I also needed to make money.

I applied for jobs that I felt like I qualified for even though I didn’t have a lot of experience. I wanted to work at places where I could communicate with people because that’s something I’m really good at. I worked in restaurants, retail, call centers, a corporate office and now tech support. It’s crazy but school helped me prepare for all of these positions even though they weren’t within my field.

When I was in school I had to get to class on time, it was necessary to be organized in order to handle my workload, I had a diverse friend group and even stayed up late to complete homework assignments. I learned to work in groups, meet deadlines, multi-task being in school and working. I even managed to balance a social life on top of it all.

You can learn a lot of the basic tools you need for the real world in school. If you haven’t gone to college, that’s cool! I’m sure you went to some form of schooling at one point in life and you learned some basic tools that you now use in your everyday life.

Although I’m not working in tv or radio or using my degree in ways that most people think I should, I feel like I am! I started this blog! I’m writing more often than I ever thought I would be. It’s on my terms and I’m communicating with you all and I love it. This makes me happy and this was what I was supposed to do all a long. Working for Sony Music didn’t work out and I’m okay with that. It wasn’t meant to be. Don’t get down about life not going a certain way. It certainly sucks in the moment because you think that’s the path for you but life happens the way it’s meant to happen and you just have to roll with the punches.

It took me 7 years post college to start this blog and to become the person I always knew I could be. Be patient and enjoy the journey. It’s a beautiful ride if you accept all situations as a learning opportunity to help you grow.

Now that I finished sharing a little about myself let’s get back to the fashion, shall we? lol

I had so much fun creating my New Years look and wanted to share it with you all. I recently started falling in love with a more tailored, tucked in look when I dress up. I used to mix and match my dress down clothes with my fancy clothes which I still do occasionally but I like having a large contrast between my relax fits and my fancy fits.

My shirt is from is from ASOS, who isn’t surprised? It’s called the ASOS DESIGN skinny fit lace shirt in black. I’m wearing a size large because I saw the word “fitted” and I have boobs. Even though I bind them, they aren’t completely flat so the last thing I wanted was a shirt that was pulling and tugging in my chest area. No, ma’am! I’m obsessed with this shirt for many reasons. I have a new found obsession with lace. It’s feminine, yet masculine and super sexy to me. If you would have asked me 5 years ago if I would ever wear lace I would probably look at you like you had two heads. Right now I’m here for lace and everything it has to offer! I’m excited to find similar shirts like it in the future.

The pants are from ASOS too, they’re the ASOS DESIGN wedding super skinny suit pants in burgundy micro texture. I’ve mentioned previously that burgundy is my favorite color. They’re dress pants that stretch which is perfect for a night out dancing. They’re also a skinny fit which is my favorite. I paired this look with my good ol’ handy dandy Madden Girl platforms and I’m so pleased with how everything turned out. I’m also wearing my long black coat because it was super chilly outside. You can see I added a little accessory to my earrings, a lock! Yes, I have a key but how funny would it be if I lost it and had to call a locksmith to get it out of my ear! HA!
