I finally found a jumpsuit!
I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect jumpsuit for the longest. I’m excited to tell you about how I finally found the perfect one in Amsterdam!
If you’ve read my other blog posts I’ve mentioned several times that I love Amazon and they oftentimes have exactly what it is that I’m looking for. When I first started eyeballing jumpsuits I wasn’t really sure where to get them and if they would look good on me. I thought, why not check out Amazon first to see what they had.
If you type in the word “jumpsuit” on Amazon a lot of things pop up. Some stuff looks like a jumpsuit and some stuff looks like a pajama onesie lol. What I happened to find, was a pretty close fit to what I was looking for. It was the “YOUMU Men Long Sleeve Zip up Romper Jumpsuit Playsuit Streetwear Boilersuit Overalls One Piece Black”. I thought the price was decent, and the size XL would HAVE to fit me according to the size chart. I’ve had pretty good luck in the past shopping for specific items on Amazon but this was my first time buying clothes on there. I clicked that “Add to Cart” button and said what the heck and bought it.
When the jumpsuit finally arrived in the mail I was so excited and couldn’t wait to try it on. When I took it out of the box I thought it was super cute but there was no way it was an XL. Maybe an XL in KIDS but not a grown adult lol. I looked up the item on Amazon to review the description more closely and I saw that it mentioned the sizing runs small. The sizing was based off of sizing in Asia, oops! When I tried the jumpsuit on it technically fit but it was way too form fitting. It was all up in my booty and I knew if I bent down I would probably split my pants haha! My main reason for getting a jumpsuit was to be comfortable but this was not working! I didn’t want to pay for shipping to return it so I gifted it to my brother and it actually fit him really well. This was definitely not Amazon’s fault but next time I’ll remember to read descriptions a little more carefully. I know how important it is to try on something before buying but I really thought this could work. I was a little annoyed that I got my hopes up and I still didn’t have a cute jumpsuit in my wardrobe. It wasn’t the end of the world . The hunt for the perfect jumpsuit continued.
I would randomly see jumpsuits in stores either overpriced, too long for my legs, too bulky, too tight on my butt, the wrong color or the wrong material. It was always something! I started to believe I would never find a jumpsuit for my body — until I went to Amsterdam.
Last year my girlfriend and I took a trip to Amsterdam and we found some pretty cool thrift stores. There was a thrift store named Episode which was pretty amazing and they had just what I was looking for. I literally had tunnel vision as soon as I spotted the jumpsuit section. One jumpsuit caught my attention right away because it was all black and I really wanted one in a dark color. It looked like it could fit me so I was pretty excited to try it on. I was a little nervous because I had several failed attempts with jumpsuits so I didn’t want to get my hopes up. To my surprise, it fit! The only issue was the leg area, it was super wide. They needed a serious taper to be wearable. I knew I could do this on my own so I paid around 30 something euros and couldn’t wait to get home and work on them.
I know that a lot of people may not have their own sewing machine to make their own alterations but if you find something that fits you in all the right places and you need minor adjustments I can’t stress it enough, go see a tailor. The photos you’re seeing are me in the jumpsuit AFTER I tapered the leg area. I should have done before and after photos but when I tell you I wanted to get these altered immediately so I could wear them, before and after photos were the furthest thing from my mind. My bad!
I’m happy to say I finally have the jumpsuit I’ve always wanted and it’s soooo cozy. Whenever I want to keep it simple or if it’s that time of the month and the last thing I want to do is pick out an outfit, I throw this on.
Also, can we talk about these shoes!? Ya’ll know I love a lift when it comes to my shoes so I absolutely had to get these matte low top Buffalo London’s from Farfetch during the the Black Friday sale. When I first got these I was like woah they are super high and was low key stressed that I may buckle my ankle in these New York streets. When I wear these I feel like I’m walking on clouds and I’m automatically a few inches taller which is always a plus. I may have tripped a few times when I first started wearing these but you get used to them lol. I knew right away when I got these shoes they would look so dope with this jumpsuit, so yasssss, another pair of platforms added to my wardrobe.
Also, who WAS or STILL is a Spice Girls fan? You may recognize these shoes because the Spice Girls wore them a lot during the 90’s but they’re bacckkkkk!
I’m also realizing that I’m dressing in a lot of dark colored clothes this winter but I’m going to try to add splashes of color for future looks whenever it makes sense. Like someone asked in my IG Live a few weeks ago, “describe your style in one word”. My response was “moody”. I wouldn’t say my mood is dark at the moment but since there’s a lack of sunshine on the east coast right now I associate sunshine with a more colorful wardrobe and winter time with darker/neutral colors. I hope everyone has a great day and as always, thank you for taking the time to read!
Do you have a jumpsuit? If so, where did you get yours?
